Definitions of Sciences and Studies - Living Organisms & Their Surroundings

Environment : Everything surrounding and affecting an organism is known as its environment.

Ecology : The study of the relationship between living things and their environment is called ecology.

Natural environment : Biotic and abiotic components constitute the natural environment.

Producers : Organisms that can make their own food are called producers. They are also called autotrophs.

Consumers : Some organisms depend directly or indirectly on the food prepared by plants. They  are called consumers or heterotrophs.

Succulent plants : Many plants such as Cacti have fleshy stems to store water. They are called succulent plants.

Habitat : a place where the conditions for the existence of a living organism are present and where it can survive, breed and flourish.

Adaptation : is the feature that helps an organism to survive in a particular type of habitat.

Hibernation : winter sleep of some organisms.
